Review of Foreign Exchange Concert

[image] The Foreign Exchange show last night was off da chain…A Sunday night church service you had to be there for. If you haven’t heard them live then you should it’s an amazing show featuring Phonte on vocals who can carry a tune and has the charisma and energy to get the crowd going. Yazarah wow what can I say her voice is amazing she hit all the notes and her reggae skills were on point. My man Darien Brockington (D Brock) brought the soulful vocals to the service and then let loose during his sermon performing “Come Around” from the connected album. The group ran through songs from their latest cd Leave it All Behind including two of my favorites “Take off the Blues” which all three vocalists were sanging on hitting deep in the groove making your head move and “All or Nothing” which the beat alone will have you moving and yes Phonte Chi-town knew about the mini-song after. One of the best moments of the show was the sermon on the difference between a love song and a song about love a classic breakdown and yes there is a difference. The group did “I Wanna Know” and we were treated to the keyword in saving a relationship “Oooookkkkkkkk”. The sermon as I mentioned earlier by Mr. Darien Brockington was amazing “Come Around” from the first cd “Connected” a funk face and soul hand crowd moving joint that you must be a witness of. The show wound down with a couple of Little Brother jams which had the body grooving and then the 90’s jam “Written All Over Your Face” cover was off the chain they got down on that one and I didn’t like the song. A show with passion, energy, charisma, and just some damn good music. Thank you Foreign Exchange….

The Chrisette Michelle Experience

The Chrisette Michelle Experience was one of the most entertaining events I have attended in a long time. The conversation between the host Dedry Jones and Chrisette Michelle was beautiful and intimate, as if we were all in a coffee shop, quiet restaurant booth, or in the living room at home just talking and being ourselves. Chrisette was very honest, and engaging which was very refreshing. She talked of her upbringing in Long Island and her entry into music at a young age through the church her family attended. Her passion for music was evident in not only her words but her mannerisms when she spoke of the greats Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald. I found it particularly interesting her stories of growing up in a very big extended family and how proud she was of that and her thirst for learning about different cultures which can only add to an artist’s growth.

The musical portion of this Experience was one of the best that I have attended because of the heart and soul she puts into her music. As Dedry played songs that she had collaborated on with Jay-Z, Nas, The Legendary Roots Crew, and The Game you could see her bobbing her head to the music like she was back in the studio recording her part. As a huge hip hop fan this is how I was first introduced to her beautiful and sultry voice. When she spoke of how writing all of your music isn’t always a good thing I found that to be a very honest realization on her part and a big contribution to her growth as an artist. The stories behind the songs from her first CD were warm and genuine.

Her mini-performance was like wow, she sounded incredible! It was like being in a small intimate jazz club and losing yourself in the music. The jazz version of If I Had My Way was amazing; her range and passion made this song jump down your soul. Her impressions of other artists were dead on and very fun. The next song she preformed is on her new CD titled Blame It On Me which is a very soulful tune and the message in the song resonated with the women in the audience.

This was the fastest selling Music Experience and, in my opinion, one of the best. The host, Dedry Jones, did an extraordinary job of interviewing Chrisette who not only gave an outstanding interview but one of the best live performances I have seen in a long time.

[image]The Bulls Game 2 I am in shock can’t believe Ray (Jesus Shuttlesworth) Allen hit the winning 3 wow what a game. I have to say the Bulls played well should’ve made some of those layups when they got fouled but it all came down to the last shot. Ben Gordon what a game 42 points he was the man tonight he carried with the 3 balls. The big guys Noah and Thomas played well and were active but the fouls were just ridiculous the refs should be held accountable for some of those calls. I know you can’t blame it on them but damn make it fair. I still feel the Bulls can win the series….. GO BULLS!!!!!

Chicago Weekly Sports Roundup 4-19-09

What’s up Chicago Big Oof coming at you with a roundup of this week in Chicago Sports.[image]First up is Da Bulls- What a game yesterday that’s how you open the playoffs going to a hostile environment and not backing down. Rose was unbelievable he is so quick going to the basket and he is calm in big games. I have to say Noah and Thomas were a surprise to me they both showed up and why they are now starts and plating big minutes. Noah seems to have realized his role as a rebounder and put back guy. Thomas jump shot was a big surprise but he played under control. I am looking for the Bulls to play tough on Monday and dare I say make it 2-0 and come back home... The Cubbies what can I say they are off to a good start the bullpen is a little shaky but will calm down and save some games. As usual Soriano is off to a good start but I still question the leadoff spot but its working and as they say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Ramirez wow what can I say he is a clutch hitter and Fukudome is hot also but for how long after the slump last year he has to prove himself. The starting pitching will come together looking for a big outing from Zambrano and Harden this upcoming week. My prediction Cubbies will win the division…. The Chicago Bears well the draft is next season and they don’t pick until the second round and there are holes to fill safety, wide receiver, defensive line, cornerback, and offensive line. I will update next weekend the Bears draft. The Go-Go Sox have had their hitting come around the last 2 games down in Tampa and that’s a good sign and their pitching is good if they stay healthy and the bullpen can be solid. They rely on the long ball and that’s not always good. Ozzie let it go with Nick Swisher get the Sox ready for the O’s Big Shout out to the Blackhawks up 2-0 on the Calgary Flames you have to give it them they are scoring and playing rough with the Flames who tried to bring it in Game 1 real physical don’t they know this is the Chi we don’t play that. So now we will go up to Calgary and keep Inglia in check and let Kane and Toews loose on them. Nikolai Khabibulin has been solid in goal and has a Stanley Cup on his resume… Chicago hit me up let me know what you think and coming soon MMA updates……

Bears Make Moves

BEARS GET CUTLER…….. I am shocked the Bears got Jay Cutler and I am happy about it I think this will put the Bears in the elite of the NFL. Cutler can throw the ball and make people better and take some pressure off Forte. I know the Bears have holes but this fills a big one and got Orlando Pace to help out on the offensive line and help groom the younger guys. If they can get Torry Holt or Marvin Harrison for a couple years to catch the ball we will be alright. I am predicting the Bears in playoffs and NFC Championship Game. Big Oof’s Final Four Predictions: UConn over Michigan StateUNC over Villanova UNC over UConn UNC-Champs So it’s your turn Chicago let me know what you think about the Bears bold move and your predictions for the Final Four!!!!!!!!!!!

Da Bulls Report 11/13/08

Here we go with a Bulls Report so far after eight games Da Bulls are (3-5) which isn’t bad but they could be better I know injuries are a factor with Captain Kirk out 3 months with a thumb and Larry Hughes should be back tonight against Dallas who is terrible by the way so why did you fire Avery Johnson again? Just asking Mark Cuban. Let’s talk about our squad well first off Derrick Rose is playing like a number one pick which is good but 38 minutes a game is too much he will burned out by All-Star Break and signing Lindsay Hunter is an ok move but we need some scoring where is Luol Deng anyone seen him two years ago he was on his way to Boulevard status now I don’t know what’s going on start going baseline like you use to Luol. Vinny Del Negro is aight so far he could be worse but let these young thunder cats run and rip and get some easy buckets and play defense get your offense from you defense we have no inside game why isn’t Aaron Gray playing more. Tyrus and Joakim wake up fellas this is the big show keep this up and you will be journeymen get up and down the court get your put backs and play some D. I am calling a search party out for Nocioni he was the tough guy who played hard hit some big shots and harassed the other team but he must still be in Argentina let me know when the real Nicioni gets back. Now on to my favorite target Ben “I be heisting” Gordon man that dude can gun he shoots all the balls and has Iverson percentages but yet he turned down 10 million a year go figure. My man Ben learn to shoot off the dribble and pass sometimes it will free you up to get better shots...This is just Big Oof’s take on the Bulls feel free to put your opinions up and let me know if I am wrong but I see maybe an eight seed for the Bulls or honestly lottery pick maybe we can get Tyler Hansborough is too early to dream…Hit me up Sports Fans….

Bears Report

This is Big Oof from the Sports Guys here is my Bears Report the season is a little more than halfway over and here we are at 5-4 and going to Lambeau Field to take on the Packers. So what’s the business we should be 8-1 but that’s another blog for earlier this season? Kyle Orton practice this week so there is hope because Rex just doesn’t have it he is slow on the draw for a former gunslinger at Florida. The running game has been our savior so shout out to Matt Forte and the O-Line for coming through. I have a couple of questions Where is the real Devin Hester? And Is the Cover-2 past its prime? I think so we need to play some man old school bump and run and lay some wood on these receivers let them know they are playing the Monsters of the Midway. So my prediction is playoffs and a record of 10-6 and one playoff win…So what’s your prediction on the beloved Chicago Bears?? Let me know blackchicagoonline.net people…..
